Visa and entry requirements

Do Europeans need a visa for the Philippines?

No. Citizens of most European countries benefit from a visa-free entry for tourist stays of up to 30 days. You'll need a valid passport (at least 6 months beyond your return date) and a confirmed onward or return ticket.

For stays beyond 30 days, a visa extension is available in-country at the Bureau of Immigration (approximately ₱3,000 per additional month).

Budget: how much to plan for Siargao?

Weather and best season

When is the best time to visit Siargao?

The dry high season runs from March to October, with generally sunny weather and consistent waves. This is the best period for surfing and water activities.

From November to February, the northeast monsoon can bring rain and strong winds, but pleasant weather windows remain frequent. It's also low season — fewer tourists and lower prices.

Typhoons are possible between July and November, but Siargao is less exposed than the northern Philippines.

Internet and connectivity

Is there internet in Siargao?

Yes — connectivity has improved dramatically in recent years at General Luna. Most accommodation, restaurants and cafés offer WiFi. Sweet Paradise Villa has fast WiFi in both accommodations.

For mobile data, Philippine operators Smart and Globe cover General Luna with 4G. Buy a local SIM at Manila or Cebu airport (approximately ₱300–₱500 with a generous data plan).

Currency and payments

The local currency is the Philippine Peso (₱). In General Luna, cash is king — all local shops, markets and scooter rentals operate cash-only. Cards are accepted in a few higher-end restaurants and hotels.

Safety in Siargao

Siargao is considered one of the safest destinations in the Philippines. General Luna is a peaceful village with very low crime rates. Standard precautions apply: don't leave belongings unattended on the beach, keep your documents secure at your accommodation.

In the water, follow surf safety guidelines (never surf alone, monitor conditions). For boat trips, choose established operators.

Health and vaccinations

No compulsory vaccinations are required to enter the Philippines. Recommended by most travel health clinics: hepatitis A, typhoid, and up-to-date routine vaccinations. Consult your doctor 6–8 weeks before departure.
